There is a huge selection of games available on the Nintendo Switch, many of which are highly recommended. Instead, you can look at the list of our top 10 games down below. We’ll keep this list updated as new games that deserve to be included are released. As the Switch’s library expands and changes, we will introduce new games and remove old ones.

Please be aware that although there are 10 items on the list below, we are not ranking them; rather, if a game has made it this far (and managed to stay here), it is simply a must-play. As a result, the entries will be listed in reverse chronological order. The list’s bottom includes a list of earlier items as well. Even if those games have been passed over in favour of bigger and better experiences, they are all still excellent games in and of themselves that you should check out, even if you’ve already caught up on the newest releases.

Here are the top 10 Switch games, according to Game Informer.

The Legend ofZelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Availability: May 12, 2023

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

It would be the biggest understatement of the century to suggest that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had high hopes. It’s not easy to follow one of the best video games of all time, yet Tears of the Kingdom was able to take so many of its predecessor’s accomplishments forward. Even within the long-running franchise, Link’s new set of abilities—most notably, Ultrahand—fundamentally alter the way in which players move across the world. With sky islands that can be explored, a sizable underground region, a gripping new story, and Ganondorf’s menacing presence, it’s easy to understand why Tears of the Kingdom has captured the attention of so many Switch owners.

Neon White

Fans of platforming and early 2000s anime will find Neon White to be engrossing, thrilling, and oozing with style. You play as White, a murdered assassin who is obliged to exterminate demons in Heaven, and you must dash quickly through hundreds of exquisitely constructed stages. With the help of your traversal abilities, such as double-jumping or a grappling hook, you may speed through stages in a matter of seconds if you really hit your stride. Card-based gun abilities test your ability to strategically eliminate enemies. The zany cast is fleshed out by a fascinating plot and quests that foster relationships, and the soundtrack perfectly captures the spirit of early Toonami. Neon White may perform best on a computer, but the Switch version of the game plays flawlessly, and there’s no denying the satisfaction of beating leaderboard scores wherever you go.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

March 25, 2022.

Even though Kirby arrived later than expected at the 3D platformer party, his presence was both stylish and a lot of fun. The new Mouthful Mode, which he may use to absorb bigger objects like vehicles and take on their physical form to solve cunning environmental challenges, joins his standard copy skills. It’s the cutest manifestation of bodily horror we’ve ever encountered. Exploring the colourful and beautiful post-apocalyptic playground is fun, and the plot takes some unexpectedly crazy turns. Although Kirby has a tonne of games, The Forgotten Land is his best since Epic Yarn.

Metroid Dread

October 8, 2021

For almost two decades, Metroid fans have pleaded with Nintendo to release a brand-new 2D Metroid game. Thankfully, Nintendo didn’t let us down when it finally came. Dread is, as the name suggests, a terrifying adventure packed with difficult boss battles and lethal robots that relentlessly pursue Samus across the several biomes of Planet ZDR. We eagerly sought out new upgrades like the Phantom Cloak and the Spider Magnet while maintaining Metroid’s traditional exploration-based platforming. The sprint to 100 percent came to an end all too quickly, but we’re eager to find out what Dread’s major plot revelations mean for the future of the show.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

20 March 2020 Release

The calm, stress-free Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out just when the world needed it. After 2020, the news cycle has become increasingly turbulent, yet Animal Crossing: New Horizons provides solace in the guise of a digital paradise island. A fun daily loop with goals and awards is provided by New Horizons, making it incredibly enjoyable to construct and customise your home and island as you see fit.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Release: July 26, 2019

In recent years, portable platforms have helped the Fire Emblem series grow a cult following, but with Three Houses, the turn-based strategy series returns to TVs in the best possible way. One of the top strategy games right now, Fire Emblem: Three Houses offers superb strategic gameplay, an entertaining tale to engage with and shape, and numerous paths through the story.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the series’ culmination, a crossover event that has taken two decades to develop. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is almost a must-have game for the Switch since it has excellent fighting mechanics, a great selection of game modes, and a fighter roster that includes every character in the series’ history.

Super Mario Odyssey

The Switch is not an exception to the rule that every Nintendo console must contain at least one terrific Mario platformer. A few months after the console’s introduction, Mario Odyssey was released, and it checks off all the old Mario requirements as well as a few unexpected new ones. It’s amusing, with excellent controls, lots to find, and a city level where Mario runs around as his short, cartoony self while everyone else is regular size. It’s an odd experience that Switch owners must own.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The superb Mario Kart 8 for Wii U Deluxe is much more than just a straightforward port; it also includes all the game’s DLC (more tracks, racers, and cars), as well as Battle Mode, which was oddly missing from the original version. Split-screen Mario Kart is always popular, and having a portable version of the game with two controllers makes it the ideal Switch showcase title.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Release: March 3, 2017

When we say The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the greatest video games ever created, we are not exaggerating. Because it raises the bar for open-world video games, we gave it our rare 10/10 rating and named it the best game of the year for 2017. Breath of the Wild is full of the kind of superb puzzle design you expect from a Zelda adventure and proves once again that you can explore everywhere you can see on the globe. You won’t soon forget the voyage, and the available DLC packs enrich the overworld with fresh quests and obstacles.
